Two continents

Two continents, two countries, two newly elected presidents. Brazil and Kenya currently have one thing in common: in both countries, victory in presidential elections has gone to opposition parties, whose candidates face a formidable challenge and bear a great burden of hope on their shoulders. Luiz Inácio 'Lula' da Silva in Brazil and Mwai Kibaki in Kenya aim to do more than their predecessors to promote social justice, fight corruption and build a more democratic state, and although both men need to tackle major political and economic problems, they could well achieve some of what they have promised.
