This book explains both the complex causes of armament and how to limit it. Conflict between states plays a major role, as do decision-making processes and arms control regimes. Current apprehension about the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction demonstrates that the problems did not end with Cold War. According to Harald Müller and Niklas Schörnig, it is true that fewer states today aspire to nuclear potency. However, US efforts to assert absolute military dominance are providing those countries with an extra stimulus. The book is a very readable and useful source of information for all readers seeking a deeper understanding of international politics. (bl)
