'Communities in the One World' Service Agency one year on

The InWEnt-sponsored 'Communities in the One World' Service Agency presented an extensive report on its first-year activities at a Press conference in Bonn on February 10. With a programme budget of 230,000 euros, the five team members have implemented a great number of projects and services in only one year. These range from the agency's own Website and its e-mail newsletter 'One World News' to a number of major events at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg last September. Describing the structure of the agency, Ulrich Nitschke, its manager, said: "It is promoted by a great number of German Federal and state authorities, municipal institutions, NGOs, and the German Convention of Municipal Authorities, the German Trades Union Federation and other associations." He said the agency aimed to expand this network in order to reach more people on-site. The agency's work this year would focus on procurement of Fair Trade products in communities. (uke)
