A change of course

A change of course in the business practices of transnational companies was demanded by the participants of 'The Public Eye on Davos' conference which a coalition of international NGOs staged parallel to the World Economic Forum in Davos at the end of January. Critics said the transnational companies had profited most from economic globalisation, but had scarcely taken their social and ecological responsibility seriously. That was why trust in commerce and industry was shattered. Since self-commitment was insufficient, the conference participants called for a 'UN Convention on Corporate Responsibility'. (uke)
