Poverty and human rights abuses

Nations which have entered into human rights contracts must take their obligations seriously, and must make combating poverty a crucial part of their activities. This is the conclusion reached in a joint paper by the German NGO Network on Human Rights (Forum Menschenrechte) and the Association of German Development NGOs (VENRO) on the relevance of individual human rights to poverty alleviation. If the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are to be achieved, the available funding must consistently be used to improve the situation of the most disadvantaged regions and population groups.
