Arab Human Development Report in March?
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is apparently going to publish the third report on human development in the Arab world after all. The main author of the report, Egyptian scholar Nader Fergany, said in late January that it will be published in March, bearing the UNDP logo. A UNDP employee confirmed this to D+C. The Development Programme has been under pressure from the USA and Egypt not to publish the report. According to Fergany, the report contains criticism of the US policy on Iraq, Israeli occupation and the autocratic leadership in Cairo (see D+C 2005:2, page 52).
