Whither Third World?

The world has changed fundamentally over the past few decades. Other journals may have conformed, but Peripherie has remained faithful to its anti-capitalist roots. This forum for interdisciplinary academic debate is edited by the German Society for development theory and development policy. On the occasion of the journals 25th birthday, the editorial team is now taking stock as well as casting an eye at the future. The contributors are far from convinced that world market integration is the key to solving the problems in developing countries. They are aware that even world markets cannot continue to expand forever. Therefore, they emphasise that auto-centred policies dealing with domestic issues deserve as least as much attention as making a given economy compatible with the world market. (orb)
