A woman and the hand of her one year old child. The picture was taken in an emergency feeding centre in Tahoua, Niger, by Finbarr O’Reilly of Reuters on 1 August 2005. The photo won the Canadian photographer the prize “World Press Photo of the Year 2005”. When awarding the prize, James Colton, chairman of this year’s jury, said: “This image has everything – beauty, horror and despair. It is simple, elegant and moving.” (ell)
