Konflikt als Chance (Conflict as Opportunity)

Konflikt als Chance (Conflict as Opportunity) the title of the multimedia CD-ROM published by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) says it all, and the message is double-underlined by Tobias Debiel's introduction: conflict is an unavoidable and important fact of social co-existence; what needs to be prevented, however, is violent conflict. And the CD sets out to show ways in which that can be achieved. In video sequences, photos, sound documents and 170 texts, it deals with conflict theories, the consequences of violence and approaches to civil conflict management. This is information which is evidently in high demand: two 5,000-copy editions of the CD-ROM quickly sold out. Now, a third edition is available. Published in January, it has been extended to include the topics terrorism, Afghanistan and conflict diamonds as well as five lesson plan proposals for schools.
