EU Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility

EU Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility

Voluntary codes of conducts for transnational corporations are valued as a means to counter the most extreme outgrowths of globalisation. The “European Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility” (CSR EMS Forum), chaired by the European Commission, brings together European representative organisations of employers, business networks, trade unions and NGOs, to promote innovation, convergence, and transparency in existing CSR practices and tools. The Forum is the centrepiece of the Commission’s strategy for promoting CSR and sustainable development as well as core labour standards and improving social and environmental governance in the context of globalisation. Its thematic round tables are used to exchange good practices and assess the appropriateness of common guiding principles for CSR practices and instruments. By establishing the CSR EMS Forum, the EU aimed at raising the level of understanding of CSR and fostering a dialogue between all groups involved. Stakeholders interested in the process are asked to subscripe before participating in the discussion or using internet resources. Conclusions are to be presented to the Commission by mid-2004.
