[ Website on German arms exports ]
Background information on Germany's arms export policy has been posted since mid-May on a Website set up by the Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC) and the Gemeinsame Konferenz Kirche und Entwicklung (GKKE), or Joint Conference Church and Development, and promoted by the German Development Ministry (BMZ). The site offers basic data on German arms exports and links to the annual reports on arms exports by the German Federal government and the GKKE, as well as to other, international information sources. It also includes reports on the main importing countries, which are relevant for critical assessment of German arms deliveries such as on the military equipment of the importing countries, the human rights situation there, their behaviour in the international community, and the illicit passing on of German weapons. The Website at present offers reports on eight importing countries, including Egypt, India, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. If the BMZ extends its promotion, the list will be enlarged. (uke)
