[ Development Policy Media Prizes 2003 ]

The Editor-in-Chief of E+Z and D+C, Reinold E. Thiel, was awarded this year's Special Prize of the German Development Ministry for his many years of journalistic work in the field of development policy. At the prize presentation in Bonn on October 21, Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul said Thiel's decades-long reporting had made a decisive contribution to promoting public awareness of development policy and peace in the world.

The first prize in the 'Print' category was won by Astrid Prange de Oliveira for an article on protection of the rainforests in Brazil. In the ‘Radio' section the Ministry honoured a programme by Valentin Thurn on the impacts of 'green' genetic engineering on farmers in developing countries. The first prize in the 'TV' category was shared by Jana Lemmers and Christoph Corves for programmes on sustainability and the global sugar market respectively.
