German Development Ministry budget for 2005

The Bundestag budgetary committee has increased the government draft for the Development Ministry budget by 76 million Euro. At the same time the committee imposed a global reduction in expenditure of almost 39 million Euro on the Ministry. The result is that, after final discussions in parliament, the Ministry will next year have 37 million Euro more at its disposal than planned by the government. However, the government must also reduce its total expenditure by two billion Euro. So far, barely half of this sum has been assigned to the particular departments. It is uncertain where the remaining 1.1 billion Euro savings will be made, if at all. Further cuts in ministry budgets cannot be ruled out. (ell)
