Dialogue is an essential element in shaping change. They provide a forum for political actors and representatives from civil society and the business sectors to talk in an informal setting and seek solutions for regional and international issues. Inwent also uses additional activities to strengthen the effect of these dialogues, such as expanding cooperation with a partner organisation or following a development policy issue closely over a period of years. We initiate dialogues to support the problem solving process, to develop compromises and decisions together or to explore new aspects of a wide variety of issues. Dialogue is the starting point for long-term networks and alliances.
Depending on the topic at hand and participants involved, we facilitate three types of dialogue: global political, sector political and expert. Global political dialogues are generally initiated by the Development Policy Forum (EF) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Different impulses for both German and international debate on developmental policy emanate from these discussions. Additionally these dialogues serve as a model for discussions the BMZ plans with the anchor countries from Germany’s development cooperation.
Sector political dialogues are growing in importance. Recipient countries are increasingly shaping development cooperation in their countries themselves. Discussion of political priorities is essential so that financial support can be made available where it can be used to the greatest advantage.
Lastly expert dialog, offered by Inwent in the form of workshops, seminars or conferences, provides experts with the opportunity of sharing information. The success of such regional and international exchanges of experience is largely dependant on the expertise of the participants involved.
