Cooperation in Germany

Alumni of the Heinz Nixdorf Programme. Copyright Inwent gGmbH/Wolfgang Müller

Germany can only be successful in development policy cooperation if it can awaken widespread support at home for the objectives of same. This is why Inwent works in Germany to help the population as a whole and young people in particular understand global connections and get involved in shaping globalisation fairly.

Development policy education is one way we contribute to implementing the policy goals of the German government in international cooperation. It has many . Elements such as the Ch@t between worlds or the Federal President’s school competition anchor worldwide learning in our schools, for nothing encourages learning more than personal exploration and experience. This is the basis for the success of programmes such as ASA. ASA supports young people in implementing individual projects in international teams. It continues to change, blazing new trails.

Inwent supports community partnerships via the Communities in One World platform that effectively compliment governmental and non-governmental development cooperation. The challenges to communities when it come to the water supply or waste disposal, city development or administration, are often the same. This is why cooperation at a community level in particular entails a number of opportunities to learn and profit from the skills and experience of others. By participating in fair trade, communities can make an important contribution to fair trade policies and simultaneously strengthening their development policy profiles.

Since we are represented by regional centres in 14 Länder or federal states Lands, we can respond to what the states and its communities need and offer contact to experts locally. Our regional centres are points of contact for local government and companies, for the media and decision-makers, for volunteers and interested individuals

Work experience abroad is an important qualification for many jobs today. Our training programmes enable participants from Germany to gather job experience abroad and further develop their intercultural skills. The Information and Advising Centre for Professional Training Abroad (IBS) answers questions about advanced training outside of Germany. It addresses a range of topics from selecting the right programme to preparing to stay abroad. The IBS provides information about programmes offered by German and international organisations that grant practice-oriented qualifications young experts and executives from Germany can earn in other countries. Our "Education without Borders" programme comprises around 170 programmes from over 60 different organisations. A search machine helps select the best programme.
