Cooperation with Caucasus and Central Asia

Working within the framework of the Caucasus Initiative, Inwent is assisting the federal governments of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan with their difficult possesses of political and economic transformation in the Caucasus. Inwent focuses in particular on encouraging free-market reforms, the expansion of democratic structures and sustainable economic development in the Southern Caucasus.

German development cooperation in the republics of Central Asia concentrates on economic reforms and the development of the free market economy. Inwent supports reform processes here through advanced training for managers and professional education programmes in particular. The growth of intraregional and local businesses is also a key factor. E-learning continues to increase in importance. Due to its dynamic economic development, Kazakhstan is a central focal point in Central Asia.

Inwent also supports the continuing improvement of national health care systems through capacity building. Central Asia has thus far escaped the devastation of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, but new infections have increased at an alarming rate over the past few years. Young people in particular are disproportionately affected: eight of ten people infected with HIV in Central Asia are under the age of 30. By comparison only one in three people with HIV are in this age group in Western Europe. Inwent is specifically targeting young people to help halt the spread of the virus.
