Fair globalisation means that economically weaker partner countries have the opportunity to actively participate in negotiations on international regulatory frameworks, such as world trade. The can use their advantages on the world market − through fair trade of goods and services not hampered by subsidies or customs barriers, for example. And they have a solid financial sector that prevents poverty from increasing at home due to turbulences on the world’s stock markets. Democratic development supported by a strong administration is a required precondition. Inwent’s goal is to assist our partner countries achieving this standard and taking their development into their own hands.
We support developing and transition countries in initiating national processes of reform. Economic policy, monetary and social policy must be reshaped. To do so, our partner countries require efficient and reliable institutions. Inwent’s programmes communicate impulses for democracy and rule of law. Participants are provided the tools they need to turn these impulses into realities. We supply information multipliers with skills and know-how. These include responsible governments, administrations and firms that ensure that sustainable development gathers momentum in their home countries. Inwent’s International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) supports journalists in creating free and independent presses – one of the basic requirements for a diversity of opinion, pluralism and democracy.
