Regional Centre Berlin/Brandenburg

Attracting the World

Part of Berlin's emblem

Berlin is not just Germany’s largest city: It is the capital and seat of government and as such attracts foreign experts and executives from the business sector, politics and civil society. The Berlin/Brandenburg Regional Centre informs the local business community about InWEnt’s international cooperation and promotes an understanding on the part of the city’s inhabitants for development policy issues.

Training and dialogue programmes

A few hundred experts and executives from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Southeastern Europe come to Berlin each year to participate in theoretical and practical advanced training programmes, management training seminars, work placement programmes or dialogue events. We work together with the state of Berlin on such issues at sustainable development, fair trade, Agenda 21 and development policy education.

The Regional Centre manages the "Young People for Development Cooperation" programme on behalf of the Brandenburg state government. The programme provides young people with insight into everyday life in Africa, Asia or Latin America during a three-month visit abroad. We also organise the Parliamentary Sponsoring Programme that invites around ten young people from the United States of America to Berlin and Brandenburg each year on a study and work placement programme.

Education for development

Development-related education provides citizens with information about the connections between countries in the North and those in the South, sensitising them to issues of sustainability involved in the concept of one world. Inwent programme participants from abroad communicate an authentic image of their home countries, and German fellows describe their impressions, both cultural and in their discipline, after they return from abroad. This facilitates intercultural learning. Young people can also exchange ideas about global issues via the "Ch@t der Welten" online forum.

International Circles

Inwent volunteers are active in the International Circles (IK) forum. They organise encounters, athletic and cultural events or excursions, thus supporting dialogue between foreign experts and interested Germans.

Bridge to the business community

Regional networking with companies and organisations from Berlin and Brandenburg creates work placement positions in the region where experts and executives from abroad can complete advanced training. The Regional Centre Berlin’s work receives additional support from the Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft Business Group.
