Regional Centre Bremen

Our key to the world

The Free and Hanseatic City of Bremen lives from trade and international exchange. Inwent’s Regional Centre Bremen supports the state in designing and implementing training seminars, dialogue events and in forming networks. Our range is designed to address executives and information multipliers from developing countries and the wider German public interested in development policy issues.

Traning and dialogue

Bremen is a Hanseatic city with direct access to the sea via the city of Bremerhaven. Logically then, our programmes concentrate on port development, logistics and environmental protection. Maritime topics have been the central focus of development policy cooperation with the state of Bremen for decades.

We support regional exchange and cooperation with partners in sub-Saharan Africa via training programmes on coastal and port development. The Regional Centre Bremen also organises a joint project for port development and management together with the federal government and the state of Bremen designed for Indonesian municipalities and provinces.

We provide young professionals involved in logistics in sub-Saharan Africa and China with advanced training, and support young people from the USA who come to Bremen as part of the Parliamentary Sponsorship Programme. Additionally we advise young professionals from Bremen and the surrounding region about opportunities for advanced vocational training abroad.

Education for development

If development cooperation is to be effective, the population at home must be made aware of international connections. Development-related education in Germany is a central responsibility of Inwent’s Regional Centres. The Bremen Forum gives people from the business community, science, and administrations the opportunity to exchange ideas and information about development policy activities with Inwent’s divisions. The "Open City" project explores potential that could be developed out of the increasing international and intercultural nature of society for regional development. Young people can exchange ideas about global issues via the "Ch@t der Welten" online forum. Bremen’s "Ch@t der Welten" focuses on the global effects of climate change.

International Circles

The success of training programmes is in part dependant on the social environment that awaits training programme participants in Bremen. Volunteers donate their time to provide our foreign visitors with background information, impressions and personal experience of life in Germany.
