The North German city of Hamburg is a strong international economic centre with wide-reaching networks. As such, it plays a key role Inwent’s capacity building programmes. The Regional Centre Hamburg works closely with businesses in the region, and their chambers and associations. As a member of the Future Council of The Hanseatic City of Hamburg, we work together to improve the future of our city.
The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is the gateway to the world. St. Petersburg and Shanghai number among our partner cities, one of the reasons our work at the Regional Centre focuses on the Baltic states, Russia, Mongolia and the People’s Republic of China. We also work together with North Africa countries, in particular Egypt and its neighbours.
Our programmes and activities focus on foreign trade and international relations, sustainable management and development policy education, and international vocational education. In cooperation with other Inwent divisions, the Regional Centre Hamburg organises programmes for the federal government on such topics as managing the environment and water, logistics and traffic systems, foreign trade and marketing.
On behalf of the Senate Chancellery of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and in cooperation with the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, we offer a trainee programme for young professionals from St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad and Shanghai. During their time in Germany, fellows complete a traineeship in a German company or a city government institution linked to economic interests.
Intercultural skills are a prerequisite for international cooperation. Within the framework of our development-related education, we encourage intercultural exchange and organise seminars and informational tours for our foreign guests. On behalf of Hamburg’s Senate we offer seminars and study trips for participants from our partner cities, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, León, Dar es Salaam and Shanghai. We are linked to those involved in development policy in the region and mediate projects between foreign guests and non-governmental organisations based in Hamburg. As a partner and advisor to the North German Partnership to Support the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, we are responsible for international advanced training.
As an Inwent Regional Centre, we cultivate contact to businesses in Hamburg and the greater North German region. We provide information about opportunities for corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its advantages in developing and transition countries. Our programme participants, young professionals and experts from all over the world, develop contact to Hamburg companies as trainees. In addition to expert and cultural exchange, the Regional Centre supports the expansion of professional contacts and cooperation between Hamburg’s business community and foreign companies.
