In West and Central Africa InWEnt implements programmes primarily on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Programmes in the region concentrate on three sectors in Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Niger, Ghana, Cameroon and Rwanda.

Decentralisation and rural development are major topics in this subregion. InWEnt fosters the proactive capabilities of state, civil society and private-sector players in francophone West Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali) to steer cooperative development processes at decentralised level in the field of natural resource management. The major building blocks include regional management, strategy development and methods promotion measures, as well as networking and maintaining contacts.

Health
InWEnt promotes the decentralisation of state health systems and the establishment of autonomous health institutions at district level in Cameroon and Rwanda. The programmes embrace health service management, health financing and reproductive health. Upgrading programmes give national decision-makers, further training facilities and the staff responsible for running decentralised health facilities the skills they need.

Vocational training
In the field of economic promotion and vocational training, InWEnt is working in Rwanda and in Senegal to establish market-driven training courses suitable for participants in vocational schools and training centres. The improved qualifications of graduates increase the likelihood of young people, in particular girls and young women of finding employment, and at the same time provides the skilled labour needed by small, micro and medium enterprises at local level.
