International Regulatory Framework / Good Governance / Economic Policy

The International Regulatory Framework/ Good Governance/ Economic Policy Department introduces programme participants to democratic philosophy based on the rule of law, and gives them the tools they need to put this into practice. By transferring know-how to multipliers within government and administrations, sustainable development becomes possible on a broad front. Enhanced political and economic framework conditions help our partner countries to take responsibility for their own development.

Because of globalisation, it is becoming increasingly important that partner countries play an active part in the development and utilisation of international regulatory mechanisms, in particular in the field of trade in goods and services and as regards the international finance system. And developing countries and transition states are also faced with the challenge of effecting national reform processes: economic, financial and social policies must be modified, and institutional frameworks brought into line with changing conditions. InWEnt supports partner countries and facilities in their efforts to implement suitable market system and process policies, and to realise liberalisation, deregulation and privatisation processes. With a view to achieving good governance, measures are developed that aim to achieve decentralised, well trained, efficient administrations at national and local level, acting within the rule of law.

The International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) has the core task of supporting a free and independent press in developing, threshold and transformation countries. Freedom of expression and opinion create transparency and encourage participation, and are crucial cornerstones in establishing and maintaining democratic structures. The main emphasis is on the following areas: economic and political reporting, environmental journalism, journalism and the internet, investigative journalism, and editorial management. For some years now, IIJ has also been offering e-learning programmes, allowing a large number of journalists to receive cost-effective in-depth training over a longer period, irrespective of their geographical location.
