Transatlantic Renewable Energy Fellowship (TREF)

Program for students, graduates and young professionals conducted on behalf of the German Foreign Office.
Target group
Students, graduates and young professionals trained/experienced in environmental or renewable energy related fields
Educational fields
- Technical fields (electrical-, industrial-, mechanical- et. engineering, Information technology; production, manufacturing, logistics, supply chain management; geography, meteorology )
- Sciences: physics, material sciences, chemistry
- Liberal Arts: international relations, environmental policy, environmental economics
- Business (general business admin, international business, PR)
Objectives
- To further German-American cooperation in climate and energy issues
- To provide mutual knowledge and understanding of environmental / RE politics, structures, developments and strategies in Germany and the US
- To provide professional practice-oriented job training in the various renewable energy branches (wind, solar, biomass, geothermal)
- To build up and extend transatlantic networks among future leaders in the renewable energy and environmental fields
- To support RE institutions, companies in their HR development and marketing efforts
- To facilitate participants with language and intercultural compentencies by way of living, learning and working in Germany
Content
- 5-day introductory seminar in Germany
- 3 - 6 month internship with a German host company in renewable energy related fields (RE manufacturers, consultants, govermental agencies, research institutions, NGOs, media)
- 3-day evaluation seminar in Germany

- Financial support: 1,100€ monthly scholarship (only for 3 months), international travel allowance up to 500€, insurance, seminar costs
- Work authorization and assistance with bureaucratic matters
- Support throughout the program in Germany and in the U.S.
Participant's Responsibilities
- Related project work of your own choice in addition to internship
- Final report
