Economic Development

Alumni of the programme Trade Africa. Copyright Inwent gGmbH/Paul Hicks

A country’s economy is the foundation of its long-term development. Sustainable economic development and the stable and sufficient economic growth associated with it are basic requirements if the world community is to achieve the United Nations' (UN) Millennium Development Goals by 2015. German development policy supports its partner countries in developing efficient local economies that enable them to survive on the international world market. Economically oriented development policy cooperation means strengthening the economies of partner countries, encouraging sustainable development and competitiveness. Only then can structural improvements to the political system or social advances lead to long-term success.

Strengthening the economies of partner countries also means shaping trade fairly in all parts of the world. Access to worldwide markets is very important for developing and transition countries. German development policy cooperation supports our partner countries in increasing their influence on an international, bi- and multilateral level. Extensive capacity building is necessary if this is to work. As an organisation of international cooperation, Inwent is responsible for providing experts and executives and decision-makers from business and politics with the skills they need to initiate processes of change in their countries.

Inwent’s capacity building programmes are economically oriented in a multiplicity of ways. Many of our programmes and training seminars deal with sustainable economic development, and with employment and vocational training. They are designed to encourage the structural and ecological modernisation of local companies and the continuing development of basic political and regulatory policy conditions. We also support foreign trade in developing and transition countries and the expansion of their infrastructures, since this is so crucial to the economy, through our capacity building. We work towards sustainable economic development in our partner countries. The qualification of employees is vital to long-term success, both on a corporate and institutional level. This is why our training programmes and workshops are also designed for information multipliers from vocational and advanced training institutions who guarantee the long-term success of our capacity building efforts.
