The 13th International Business Forum at the second African Interdisciplinary Alumni-Conference "Global Crises - African Challenges" of Inwent will take place in Accra/Ghana from 4-6 November, 2009.
In 1995 InWEnt started an ambitious program: convening business people from industrialized, middle income and development countries to discuss practical steps for implementing the resolutions of the Rio “Earth Summit”. These were the heydays of the sustainable development discussion, but what – “on Earth” – should businesses have to contribute to the discussion on environment and development?
Since then, the International Business Forum has gathered up to 350 participants from the private and public sector, academia and international organizations each year, elaborating practice-oriented solutions and serving as a launch pad for new initiatives and strategies to be absorbed by development agencies and practitioners.
In 2007, InWEnt and the World Bank Institute initiated a global learning process called “Business and the MDGs” in the course of which three International Business Fora were held. The overall aim of the process was geared towards the most general MDG 8: creating “a global partnership for development” in which the private sector assumes adequate responsibility.
The 11th International Business Forum identified businesses that by operating successfully and responsibly in sub-Saharan Africa brought employment, income and improved goods and service provision to some of the poorest countries in the region. Businesses can do good by doing good business.
Building up in particular upon this event, and benefitting from the Alumni conference as an interdisciplinary dialogue platform, the 13th International Business Forum 2009 "Global Crises - African Challenges" will highlight private sector's responses to the challenges and opportunities arising from both the financial and climate crisis in Africa.
If you are interested to engage in online discussions on the topics of the conference please visit the webpage of the International Business Forum. There you may also connect with other practitioners and experts.
